Is anyone read the Rape Recovery book?
My counceler says is the best book out there so I bought it.
I read one page and then threw it across the room.
It's so much easier not to deal with it. My counceller says even one page a day is progress but I really don't think I can do it right now.
Has any one made any progress with this book?

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
I think the important thing is to remember that it is just one book - I don't think it's possible to write one single book to cover every different situation, so try and take what you think is useful from it but don't worry about the things you feel aren't relevant to you.
I have a love/hate feeling for this book.
Let me explain....it was almost the first info I've ever read about R--- after what happened to me..It was helpful in many ways (very informative, ) but the first few pages were very intense and I couldn't get through them for like the 1st week after I got it. Then I was feeling really bad one day and I read the section about the types of R--ists...I started there and kinda worked my way backwards but it was still very intense and I still tense up when I pick up this book.
It has a lot of truth in it ...especially warnings of the behavior and attituded of others but it also tell you to go at your own pace with your recovery and that each person is different.
It drops a lot of truth Bombs and very quickly and sometimes you feel so raw because of what you've just read as well as being a self help book you're trying to place yourself and emotions into what's going on.
The bad thing about it was it was almost like a prediction (in my case) of how others would react and how other aspects played out and are still happening w/ regards to treatment from family/friends down to the police and legal system (absolutely true....it stinks)
I guess I just got upset that things happened almost exactly as the book said and it was written in the late 80's right? ....so it just goes to show that no matter how much more we are advanced from the 80's this is still a matter of your word against the (ba%*#+!^) unless it really was a situation where someone jumped outta the bushes in a dark alley! (No offense to anyone this happened to !)
The statistics are a little behind ...but the attitudes behind the statistics are still the same (it's pathetic!)
Take your time...(you may have no choice in the matter due to the real life experiences ) be sure to close the book when you feel overwhelmed ...just walk away from it for about an hour or so before you start again!
Best Wishes ~~and you can talk to me anytime if you want!
