The first time that [Pink & I] did the vocals to A Long Way to Happywhich is a song that Alicia and I didit was written about her having to deal with being raped as a teenager by a cop, which was brutal for her. We had never even known each other before she expressed this to me, and I said Well, obviously when we go into the studio its going to be [a] pretty emotional time, so lets make sure the vocal goes down naturally, and sure enough she was practically in tears when she sang it, and I dont blame her. I dont think you have to subscribe to the mentality that you have to bring the person to pain to sing and give a good performance. You just got to let the song be the song and let it do the work. Some songs are meant to be taken lighter and some are not. She definitely let that one fly.
Gratitude, by Ani Difranco (lyrics on the side):

My favorite line in the song:
"Please stop. This is not my obligation. What does my body have to do with my gratitude."
Survival Story, produced by PCAR, sung by rapper I.B.

This song doesn't run away from fear and despair (Trigger warning), but there is a great refrain:
Rights and Pride Equal
Resistance, Ability, Power, Equality
The road to happy can be long, but sometimes it is important to remember that the experience of rape is NEVER the final word. It is important to hear those words "Rights and Pride Equal Resistance Ability Power Equality" whispering in the background.

Again, trigger warning - this song is very open about the pain.
