between the ages 11 to 14 years old I was raped by a family member. I was in and out of foster care my whole childhood. My parents was alcoholics. When I tried to tell my parents what happened they didn’t believe me. After a while I couldn’t take it anymore I tried to commit Suicide, than my grandpa stepped in and help me put the man away that did it to me. He stayed right beside me through it all. I lived with my grandparents for 2 years. I was happy getting my life on track than my parents won me back. I refused to go back home. I ran away and no one seen me for 5 years. I was 21 before my family seen me again. I only went home to see my grandparents. Dealing with the rape has really destroyed me  physically,emotionally,mentally. It’s put a strain on my marriage. I don’t know what to do anymore

I am so sorry for what you are going through. Please hang in there. It does get better, i know. What happened to you was wrong, not your fault and beyond your control. But you are a strong and wise woman because of it. I was not raped but sexually assaulted and nearly raped. It can be such a horrible feeling and it happens too much to women in this country. I am glad he is behind bars and as far as any residing feelings are concerned i highly suggest seeing a counselor or even a faith based counselor as the support of another female, often times one who has gone through similar things is a tremendous help. Sometimes talking to your spouce about why your feeling the way you are helps and maybe he will understand. I am not married so thats all the advice i can give you that way. Your are such a strong woman for reaching out and survivng this. Your not a victim but a survivor. Sending hugs and positive energy.

I am really sorry and I know to some extent what you are going though it sucks. I still live in foster care and it seems as though no one loves you but someone some where does and just rember that.

Lifeaftertrauma, I'm sorry what you're going through. Are you in therapy or have you ever had therapy to help you deal with your traumatic feelings about your rape? Also, writing a letter (that you don't send) to your rapist is a very therapeutic activity you could consider doing. I tried hypnosis therapy for a while years ago, it helped a bit. But, as I said in a post when I first joined the group, I still feel shame and blame (myself) for my rape that happened over 30 years ago! Good luck.
