When I was young I was brutally raped by my father, he also raped my friend who told her mother about it and that saved me after 4 years of pain. After being taken by children services I was later placed with my grandparents, on days my grandmother would go to bowling or bingo my uncle would have all of us kids play hide and seek and would drag me into his bedroom (where the other kids weren't allowed to go) and rape me. He had touched me before when he was friends with my father, so he knew I was well trained. I told my grandmother and my aunt called me a lier so I let it all go and have dealt with the stigma of being the girl who cried rape ( though I was only 10 at the time) the lier stigma followed me...I'm now 34 have gathered my strength and placed all that horror mostly behind me. Yet yesterday my uncle was accused again by a young girl and then tried to commit suicide, now it's all coming out that I didn't lie and neither did my cousin. My dilemma is that I'm not sure if I want to go and testify again. My father ruined my life first and made it hard for me to get to who and where I am now (which while not perfect and never will be normal, is a strong and capable compassionate woman) I've tried very hard to leave it all in the past, but in a way I feel his continuing to hurt others is my fault, and I want to testify so this little girl will not be alone in her fight and so he will go to jail where he belongs. Yet I don't want to bring it all back up again and risk my nightmares and panic coming back. I've been almost normal without meds for awhile now and don't want to go backwards into the horror that my life was. Any advice is appreciated because this is all causing my ptsd to go crazy, I'm jumpy and crying a lot and just cannot sleep, I'm in panic mode and am not sure if going to testify will help or hurt at this point, the only thing I am sure of is that I need to go back to counseling...Pandora box is already slipping open again and I feel out of control.

I was in that same place several months ago-march. Coming forward to the detective was one of the most hardest things I've ever done. But he did it to several other girls and worse. It truly felt like pandora's box had been opened and there was no putting it back. I may still have to testify when he goes back to trial to be retried on two charges. It can happen at any day that I could get a summons. Talk about jumpy and PTSD . yeah I've been there since March. I know it had been 26 years since it happened to me but I don't think you ever forget about it. Actually I buried it and didn't tell anybody so it came out afresh when I told the Police and then the SVU detective. I think what you're doing is very brave and you will get thru it. You may have to get back into counseling. I've been back in therapy since May.

i'm so sorry that that happened to you.....i think you should do it....i know that it's scary and that it's going to be hard but you will be helping someone....you are STRONG and you can do this!!!!!! i was going to suggest seeing a counselor to help with all these emotions....i think it would be really helpful for this little girl to see someone else up there with her.....fighting for some justice......i think she might need all the support she could get at this point.....i hope you don't think i'm being mean....if you decide to do it, i would probably have some grounding techniques handy and take deep breathes and stay calm....i hope this helped....if you wanna message me please fell free to

That is the reason I came forward Valgal. To help the teens he violated and to feel like justice was served for everyone

Thank you both and yes my cousin and I have decided it's the right thing to do, and at least this time I won't have to do it all alone, my cousin will be testifying and my mother will be with us. It's going to be hard and I'm sure I'll backtrack a bit, but I can't let that little girl go through it alone, it wouldn't be right. Thank you both for your advice I truly appreciate it.

Testifying may help in that you will feel you finally got justice and you will be stopping him from hurting anyone else, plus the little girl will know she is not alone. I would do it. Either way you choose please make sure you get into counseling with a good rape therapist, because its almost guaranteed the testimony will bring back the memories and the nightmares but from the sounds of it your already headed down that path anyway. Hope this helps.
