So....I have finally decided to go on and use my school's counseling services....still a little iffy, but I am definitely going to sign up (like hopefully today).
So my question is.....what was therapy like for you? Do you have any tips? I actually went to one session before somewhere else, but I totally pretended that I was fine.....there were some tell-tell signs that I wasn't (looking back), but the counselor made it seem as if I didn't need to come back unless I just wanted to...what if that happens again? LOL! I am stressing about this a little too much probably.....I am especially stressing about what I should say....I don't speak about my feelings so well...and IDK, I am so nervous! LOL! Any suggestions????

i would say just be honest....share as much as you want to....when i came out about my rape the first few words i said to my therapist was,"i was raped" and immediatly a weight was lifted from my shoulders......therapy is likly to make you nervous and stressful, but that's becasue it's something new....once you get used to it, it gets better......if the counselor makes you feel like you don't need to come back try to get ahead of the counselor....like when you first get there introduce yourself and then say something like,"i've wanted to do this for a little while....when i was with a counselor before they seemed like they only wanted me to come back if i needed to....i really think that i need therapy, and i hope that we can work well together....." that also requires the honesty....good luck and if you ever wanna talk, i'm here

I agree. Just take things at your own pace, being as honest and open as you're able. And, incidentally, it's kinda good that the counsellor left you feeling it was your choice whether or not to continue. It *is* your choice. There's little gained from counselling your 'made' to go to.

hi....well continue to be honest with yourself!! admitting what happen...and thats the first step!! we go to get therapy...and we dont like it for many reasons..and one of our biggest mistakes is that we pretend it happen!!...when it did...me personally...i went to 1 session...and promise myself i wouldnt go bck...i dont like to revisit things...that are painful especially on their terms!..lol...i took my life step by step and day by day....and since it has been 12 going on 13 years...since that happen..i never even went back..!! ever!!! but just go by how you feel..ok...if you ever want to talk...just send me message...

I went to therapy but it did not help It only made things worse. I have been in ad out of therapy for years. The last pace I went to did nothing for me I have not been to therapy since that was 3 years ago I did have issues, but I'm just going to deal with them one day at a time. instead of going to therapy

Thanks for all of your comments. I feel a little better and motivated to start (still nervous of course)...At this school, to make an appointment, you have to email her first, so I guess I'll use that as my chance to really be honest, since I'm a lot more open in writing than when speaking...So I'm literally about to write an email right now. Thanks for all the encouragement :)
