Of course it's in french, but the guy sings; kids used to come in late,
now they don't come in at all... and this is so true.
Fuck I remember I was bloody 17 and my best friend in front could go anywhere, and she was younger than I, and she had permission to go wherever.
Definately a true statement there Bluesun, great post.
Oh gosh! This is a great topic. And one that I have gotten into many arguments with people about. I have 4 kids. I am married, middle class and stay at home. My husband and I made that choice. I get really sick and tired when people, especially other mothers that work, say to me "oh, you are so lucky you get to stay at home". It is not 'luck'....it is a 'choice'. I had these kids....I am going to raise these kids. Not some institutional daycare...but me. And it is a sacrifice. My family doesn't live in the biggest, nicest home. We don't drive new cars. In fact, we need new cars! But can't afford it at this time. My husband has had to have 2 jobs sometimes just to make ends meet. My husband and I are very traditional in our roles.
I do see unruly kids, misguided teenagers. People wonder why. When both parents work....and many times the average work week is 50-60 hours as opposed to just 40. In the 'big scheme of things' how many hours are the parents really spending with their kids. It isn't much. Parents come home from work, are tired, racing around getting dinner ready, hauling the kids to some activity/sport, coming home then the kids go to bed or the kids are staying up until all hours of the nite finishing homework.
Don't give up not wanting to have kids Blue.....they really are a blessing. Yes, sometimes they can unnerve us parents...but what joy they can bring!
I have pretty well-behaved kids. Oh yes, they do have their moments...but they are kids. I am often asked how my kids got to be so well behaved. I have a 17 yr old son...never a problem with drugs, alcohol or sex. At least none that I know of anyway. But I am pretty confident there isn't that problem.
I think kids too are stressed....and many turn to drugs, alcohol and sex for relief. Parents place too high of expectations on their kids.....they want "overachievers" because the parents themselves are overacheivers. There is a lot of pressure put on kids to be the best.....be the best in sports, school, etc. Have any of you been to a little league game or a youth basketball game and witnessed some of the parents yelling at their kids? I have. It is sad and angers me so much.
As a mom I am just trying to nurture my kids. See their strengths and nurture those. It is a lot of work. But worth the effort.
and doesn't that 18 yr old know that you gotta work to get what you want?? nothing falls into your lap! ya this world is so screwed up!!
