Pulmonary Hypertension Support Group
Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is an increase in blood pressure in the pulmonary artery or lung vasculature, leading to shortness of breath, dizziness, fainting, and other symptoms, all of which are exacerbated by exertion. Depending on the cause, pulmonary hypertension can be a severe disease with a markedly decreased exercise tolerance and right-sided heart failure.
I have also read that with PH we should eat foods that are high in antioxidants. Coffee and dark chocolate have the most antioxidants. Here is a list of helpful foods rich in antioxidants: small red beans, most berries like blueberries, strawberries, cranberries, raspberries. Red delicious apples, black beans, pecans, almonds, peanuts, plums, artichokes, dried prunes, and coffee, dark chocolate.
Exercise is tricky for me due to having Dermatomyositis which is a rare muscle disease. I walk, lift small weights, I also do some stretching. I do my exercises through out the day and everything in moderation. I think moderation and be careful. I know PBS television has some good shows on exercises for seniors that are helpful. I am not a senior, but my body feels 90 years old. I also have osteoporosis so I must be careful.
I sincerely hope you can find a way to feel better. I don't feel great myself but I'm nowhere close to feeling like you do. I mostly have the shortness of breath and the dreaded fatigue.
Keep strong,
Wanda
