My mother has ILD associated with polymyositis. It has been stable for quite a while after chemo treatments. Recently she had a severe respiratory infection which caused a flare. She was told that she has more fibrosis too. Was the infection the cause of it or is it something that will just keep happening no matter what?

Any kind of pulmonary exacerbation is of great concern and warrants emergency medical care. I'm well aware that such events can complicate ILD as was my personal experience.

If Mom is in the same town as you, has she considered going to Mayo?
I believe it's about 2 hrs away.

Kendra I am not sure where you mom lives but I have ILD and have been being seen by the chief of ILD at National Jewish. She always wants to know as soon as i get a URI. They do tend to cause flares, if they infections are not caught immediately and treated.ILD is something that will never go away, it can however go into remission so to speak.

National Jewish accepts patients from all around the world and i would highly recommend them to anyone. They saved my life.

The Mayo clinic is a great option as well. I will be lifting your mom up in prayers
