He feels it does help to loosen any mucus.....though PF does not seem to produce it like COPD does.
He was on 3 a day...but has dropped to 2, as he finds them a bit rough on his stomach.

I also take Alpha Lipoic, which is also an antioxident, which was recommended to me by my cardiologist.
I've been on NAC since about June, 2010, and found that it does keep the mucus loosened. Along with the percocet that I take to eliminate my cough, I rest fairly well. Oxygen 24/7 not only helps me breath but it also helps to reduce the chances of one of the more insidious long term side effects of IPF that of PAH (Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension).
