Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
Just wanted to add another perspective to this subject. I had massive bilateral extensive PEs that we have never found a cause for. I just wonder if I had been on BC it would have been easy to blame this. I am in no way dissing the fact that there may be a relationship to clotting whilst on BC,it IS possible to have PEs without a cause being found.
Hope that if it is the case that it is more frequent with the BC that you are on then you get some answers but just be aware that they may argue that it is possible for it to occur naturally anyway
Good Luck

I don't wish to contribute to your article, but I would like to suggest you broaden your topic. I've found that PE seems rather common amidst users of the supposedly "safer" low estrogen pills; it's not limited to Yas.
I think the article idea is excellent. I have also read about that particular ingredient in yasmin being an issue, hence the reason there are so many legal pursuits surrounding this pill. It's not just PE's that women have suffered there have been reports of pancreatic cancers, strokes, brain bleeds and horrific side effects. I agree that doctors do just prescribe it like lollies. I think every woman who decides to go on the pill should have a full run of blood tests to determine if they have any predispositions to clotting. Had I had this done, I could have avoided my PE i believe. I also mentioned to my Doc that my dad had suffered 2 strokes, I feel that should have been a warning sign to her that there was a possibility of genetic issues there. Maybe that would be a costly option for many, but I would rather that than to suffer PE's.
