By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
Well today I was getting a school report out of a plastic storage box.
Dropped said box on my big toe. My toenail on my big toe popped straight out of its nail bed an my foot was quickly left in a pool of blood.
Of course this happened whilst I was rushing to get my five children to school.
My children offered up some interesting advice. Can you get the docs to stitch the nail back on? Can they just stitch it up anyway to stop the bleeding. My 14 yr old was slightly less sympathetic. She thought it was plain disgusting.
My six yr old thought it would be good to call her dad back from work so he could take them to school.
14 yr old went off and found gauze and tape so I could cover up the disgusting toe so she wouldn't have to see it.
Toe got covered up, children got to school, teenager is still disgusted by toe. Husband continues to despair at just how clumsy I am.
16 hours later and dumb toe is still bleeding, so if its still bleeding in the morning I will have to take the silly toe to the dr and explain the whole embarrassing story to them. Hope they can do something for it to stop my children picking on their poor clumsy mother with an injured toe.
Sometimes warfarin can be a little annoying!

I don't know how losing the nail might compare, obviously if you seem to have an injury that needs stitched up somehow, then you'd want to get that done, although I lost a fingernail once and I can't really imagine how they'd do that. Anyway, I don't know if this will help, but my doctor stressed to me staying off my feet and elevating it until the bleeding was under control. And I was terrible at obeying that, because I have kids who always need stuff done. Who has time to just sit around and wait for your blood to coagulate? But it was obvious that every time I was on my feet was when the bleeding would start again, so at last I did stay off it, or when I absolutely had to get up I used a makeshift cane so as to put as little weight as possible on it.
But yeah, bleeding is a major hassle even when you know it's not something life-threatening. I hope you get it under control soon and your daughter can stop being disgusted, haha.
I had to have a tetanus booster so that was a little painful.
The nurse was very interested in my PE history and we had an interesting chat about clexane injecting techniques ( I was on tis during pregnancy and bridge with it if my INR is acting up) and just how annoyingly painful the little skin prick tests are. So at least my I had someone interesting to chat with
