Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
I am a little bit stressed out today, so thought I would come here and ask a few questions. Stressed out because today I have a lot of chest/back pain, some dizziness, and just in general feeling pretty lousy. I am sure the anxiety that kicked in is not helping all of that! :o) Anyway...
In February, I am due to have a repeat scan, and then come off the warfarin for a few weeks so I can be retested for all the genetic stuff. (we still have no idea why I clotted, though I was borderline positive for a few, that was after I was on the meds). I had thought I would go on the lovenox while off coumadin and waiting for the tests, but my hematologist said they only do that in high risk cases. So finally my question... am I being unreasonable/paranoid that I want the Lovenox? I am sure the chances of me clotting in that few weeks unprotected is pretty slim, but still, I am worried! I mean, I had no signs leading up to all of this... no signs of a DVT, nothing, until all of a sudden WHAM! Massive saddle pe's. And with how lousy I am still feeling 10 months later, well again, I am worried.
I have not talked to my primary about this yet so who knows, maybe he will say something different. Or at least, assure me this is safe. Just wondering what all of you think and or have experienced.

Are they definitely putting you back on warfarin after the tests? Is there a chance that the Lovenox could mess with the accuracy of the tests? I would ask some more questions, if I were you.
TNT...Honestly I am not entirely sure of the plan, and yes, I definitely have some more questions for the doctors. Initially in the hospital, they were leaning towards my being a lifer. Then when I started seeing my own doctors, things seemed to change a bit. All the hematologist has mentioned so far is that after the tests, depending on the results, the decision would be mine. However, he also stressed that I needed to understand the risks of being on it if not absolutely neccesary. I don't know. Just feeling very confused right now. And if the decision does in fact end up being mine, oh boy! lol Then I will really be confused and afraid of making the wrong choice.
I guess I will just have to wait and see what happens. Not much more I can do right now. I try not to research too too much online because that at times just makes thins worse.
