That's a long trip without stopping, but I also understand wanting to get to your destination! Have you looked into taking natural blood thinners, vitamin E, fish oils, nattokinase, vitamin c, I've recently heard even taking cinnamon capsules help with our ciculartory system, I'd look into taking some of these things, especially a few weeks prior to the trip so it can build up in your body, maybe even a asprin a day too. I was going to say drink enough fluids too, but then your stopping a few hours to use the restroom! I'm sill scared to travel, I desire to, but scared!

I found that drinking lots of water and be sure to move your feet, ankles and even your legs several times in the car. We are planning two car trips this summer and that is what I am planning on doing. Everytime you stop for gas be sure to walk around for at least 5 to 10 minutes!

I travel a lot and I've been in discussions with my doctors about this subject (mind you, my travel is by plane). I am going to take an Arixtra shot (it's like Lovenox) before I travel for the rest of my life. I'm going to New York and Kampala in the next couple of weeks :)

my first trip after my PE/DVT was by plane, and my ankles got HUGE and my DVT got really painful again because i didn't move around enough...from now on, i'm suppose to wear the support hose, wiggle or walk every hour, and drink plenty of fluids leading up to the trip...i'm flying from chicago into new york this weekend, so i guess i'll get to see if all of that really helps...because the granny ankles were SO not sexy :-)

when in the car (i commute 2 or more hours each day) i try to at least rub my legs a few times each trip to get the blood flowing again...tapping my foot to music and changing my posture every now and again all seems to help keep my blood going...

hey there, yeah i had similar worries about this one... and your right, its just not practical to get out and stop loads! and drinking loads of water will make you need to stop loads anyway!!

my heamatologist advised me to take a clexane (lovenox) shot when travelling, one the day before, one the day after, and for every day your travelling. (so for three days basically if your travelling for one day.)

uggh i klnow its a pain now that your off lovenox, but only doing it for three days is nothing like what you went through before.

my doc has written me up a repeat prescription so i can just colelcgt some whenever i am going travelling. i have also been issued with a customs certificate to say that i can take them onto planes when i fly

Did they say you need to only take one shot a day? not two? I always had to take two. I will ask my doctor about this. I have shots left over from my old script.

Thanks to everyone who shared!! I have "granny" ankles even after a day of teaching. They swell so badly they tend to push out over my shoes. I can even press on my legs and leave a deep dent. Not sure what this is caused from??
I head to a doctor's appointment this Friday and will be asking lots of questions.
I just traveled to Wisconsin by plane and car while there. My ankles became swollen even though I did move around. Oh well. The thing that bothered me though was I had severe pain in my left shoulder,arm and neck. Nothing would relieve the pain and I even took some IBProfein even though we are not supposed to do so. More questions for this Friday.

I'm traveling for the first time in a week since I developed PE back in October 2007. The doctor and I have decided to keep me on the Coumidin for another couple of weeks so I'll be covered while I'm flying. Unfortunately I developed PE from flying and the birth control pill, although I'm no longer on the pill, it still scares me to get back on the plane.
