By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

Being a warfarin lifer gets me kind of thoughtful sometimes. I wonder, for example, what happens when mosquitoes bite me. And they do LOVE to bite me. I imagine the mosquitoes talking to each other and saying things like, "Hey, try this one! She bleeds easy!"

Course I'm vindictive, so I wonder if the warfarin in my blood will wind up killing the mosquito in the long run. There's probably no way to know, but I do get some sort of grim satisfaction in the idea.

Anyone else have have any stupid warfarin questions?

LOL - I could rent myself out as Mosquito Control at backyard parties - like the human bug zapper!
Funny Toss, I didn't have any stupid warfarin questions until now....
Like I wonder if I could make my own by fermenting sweet clover in my basement...in case my insurance ever lapses!

lol good question i killed a mosquito earlier today and abunch blood came out of him when i smooshed him (ew) and wondered if he just stung me. lol

Yeah I thought about if bugs sucked my blood if they would die, but I'm never outside long enough to test that.

I wan't really worried about cutting myself and bleeding to death. I had a gut feeling the PE was going to trigger my ucler and I would bleed like crazy, and I was right about that.

I keep fancy rats and checked with my vet if the warfarin could seep through my pores and poison my rats! The veterinary nurse very kindly kept her laughter in check and went to ask the vet to put my mind at ease lol.

PS - I bleed now when "plucking the hairs out of my chinny chin chin" - so the three little pigs are at risk as well!

The other day, there was a dead rat on my lawn, I felt compassion for it. I thought, it has had to much rat poison (warfarin) and had internal bleeding. Weird to have a connection with a rat. I must admit since being on this drug, I have had some strange thoughts.

3 days post PE diagnosis I woke the whole family at 3am Sunday morning to drive 40mins to ER for an extreme pain in my neck. I was sure it was a blood clot traveling up to my brain and I was certain I was gonna die.....
Yep it was a torn muscle from a karate grading I had that day....OMG I felt like an iiiiidiiiooootttt!!!! I've since found out I've got 2 bulging discs there lol
I'm sure I've got more stupid things up my sleeve.....

OK we need to get something straight here folks. Warfarin is not rat poison. Warfarin can be counter acted by shots of Vitamin K. The most common drug used in rat poisons is indandiones and difethialone and in some instances some Warfarin but the highest concentrations in Rat poison are indandiones and difethialone which are anticoagulants as well. They have nothing that can be used to counter act them so if you eat those ingredients giving you a shot of vitamin K won't do anything for ya. People need to stop looking at Warfarin as Rat poison and look at it as the drug that is keeping them alive so they can enjoy another day with their loved ones. Think positive here people, and don't be negative about being on Coumadin. Now with that said I am positively thinking those pesky mosquito's are dying by the thousands from biting all of us.

My dog ate rat poison and the vet gave her vit K to counter act it and she was fine. just saying....

OK well
1. your dog probably would have survived anyway as i'm sure it didn't eat enough rat poison to kill him.
2. Dogs vomit rats don't so chances are your dog vomited a lot of the rat poison up.
Look up the ingredients of rat poison and see what can be used to counter act the ingredients indandiones and difethialone, it sure isn't vitamin K. Yes some manufacturers do use Warfarin but they also use the other 2 ingredients along with the Warfarin. The Vitamin k did counteract the Warfarin, maybe that was enough to save the dog.

I really don't mind taking warfarin in the slightest. When I was first put on it I knew nothing about the drug. It was only after that people started telling me it was rat poison. I don't care what else it is used for, it keeps me safe and for that I am more than grateful :-)

In the uk it is standard to joke you are taking rat poison when on warfarin. It is harmless banter, Warfarin is an amazing drug but please lets have a laugh while we take it. We all no how important the drug is and by joking we are not being negative about it.
