By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

Not that this is a shock to most of us, but ... this British study finds that more recent birth control pills have 2 - 3 times the blood clot risk of older pills.

That's one of the topics that Dr. Moll had discussed in the StoptheClot Patient Seminars back in the 2004 timeframe (older BC was safer then newer in regards to clotting risks). Healthcare professionals had known this for some time.

It is interesting that the pharmaceutical companies in the story discuss how the study is wrong, wrong, wrong when pretty much everyone else knows they are just covering up. Crazy really.

Mine was Yasmin, the topic of the article. My PCP said, "I don't like to point fingers, but why the HELL did your OB GYN let you take that for so long??"

Ahh!! This article just makes me mad. Mine happened whilst I was taking Yasmin (also had broken my ankle). Any higher rate of clotting incident is too high and women should be given the information in order to make an informed decision. I was given no choice when prescribed the pill and unfortunately knew too little to ask the right questions.
