Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
Honestly, I had no pain at all when I was diagnosed. Just severe SOB and that was about it. I didn't get pain until about a month later. I was just pushing too hard and started getting low-grade pain along my spine and my shoulders. Some on my breastbone.
I was totally checked out at the time, including a repeat CT (my clots were gone) but there wasn't anything. I'd just been pushing my poor tired lungs a little too hard. Even now, close to two and a half years out, I'll get little bits of pain when I'm hiking or out in cold/hot/humid weather.
If it is freaking you out, put a call in to your doc, just to check base. It does happen to a lot of folks, just not always and not always on diagnosis.
