Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
Greetings all my friends,
Sunday morning a friend helped me carry the air conditioner upstairs, and it actually went pretty easy. That was around 1:00 PM. Around 6:00 PM I went to the YMCA to do my lengths in the pool and one length tired me out. I had to wait to catch my breath before continuing. I did exactly 4 lengths and gave up. When my wife saw me she said I looked white as a sheet. By the time the ambulance showed up my color was looking better, and my O2 was 96%. A couple hours later when I finally saw a Dr. they started the work ups. First Dr. didn't think a 2nd CT was warranted. I had one in January to diagnose my 2nd PE. Supervising Dr. came in eventually and was undecided if it was heart or pulmonary. Finally decided on doing a 2nd CT scan.
When I had my 2nd PE in January it showed multiple emboli in each lung and infarction (dead tissue) in both lungs. The CT I had yesterday (about 3 AM) showed no changes. PE was still there. I am now home (minus one night sleep) and recuperating. I will follow up with my GP and see what he thinks.
I was thinking of flying to Florida to see my mom, but as the PE is still there I'm not planning on flying.
I'm also thinking that heavy lifting seems to be what is setting these things off. IN January the trigger was carrying a heavy paper box out. This time I carried a heavy air conditioner.
And Yes, I am planning on following up with my GP and pulmonologist.

I know what's hard for me is to listen to my body and stop when I should, instead of saying, "Oh, come on Lori, you used to do three times this the first hour of work every day." Just because I've always been able to do it does not equal I can still do it. Right now, at least. I fully intend to get back as much as I can. It's just going to take more patience than I want to have to give it. :)
