Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
The only feeling of doom that I had was because my breathlessness was getting worse on a daily basis - and - the doctor kept telling me that it was emphysema and I'd have to get used to it! Yes I did feel relieved when I was finally admitted to hospital - just relieved that someone believed me and had found out why I felt so ill !! Not the same as your experiences though - Sandi x
I know what you mean about the feeling something awful was about to happen. I felt like that for a few weeks before I was diagnosed with my PE,
I also had recurring dreams of collapsing at work!
Seemingly that's quite a common feeling, or so one of my doctors said...... a feeling of pending doom!
Like you these feelings went away, also the dreams of taking ill.
It's an interesting one isn't it?
Take care,
Jeanette
After christmas in 2007, i suddenly decided i couldn't cope with the course anymore and had to leave. I was persuaded to keep going for a little longer...then in February last year, i decided enough was enough and i just couldn't cope with it anymore. I sort of had a nagging feeling - telling me i had to leave. I was living at Uni, which is about an hour and a half from my home. Deep down, i just knew that i had to leave and go back home again.
Less than a month after leaving the course i was diagnosed with multiple PEs. Although it was a scary time - it could of been much worse, i could of been stuck in a hospital an hour and a half away from my loved ones...completely on my own.
I actually am now, really happy that i left my course when i did...i would of had to leave anyway after being diagnosed with my PEs. It really is like something inside told me i had to leave and get home - like the feeling of doom you described.
Unfortunately for me, that feeling of doom hasn't lifted...but i am working on it, and hopefully it will dissappear soon x
My feeling of doom/impending death still comes and goes but at least its not my constant companion at this point .Maybe it is cause by chemical reaction in the body to the PEs .This is an ugly subject but we PEs understand what we are feeling .
Later, my friend who is a high-level nurse practitioner specializing in wound care that she was actually trained to listen for patients saying they have a feeling of doom, especially when they say, "I am dying." She said that she is also trained to check for aneurysm when people say, "I have the worst headache I have ever had in my life"--not merely "I have a horrible headache" but specifically the "in my life" part. I don't blame my docs for not recognizing this symptom, but again, I am relieved that it was my mind saying, "Something is seriously wrong." That feeling of doom is an accurate response to diminished oxygen to the brain, and it has a physical cause.
I am finally (after 4 months) feeling like myself again, moodwise. I hope that our sharing our experiences will be a comfort to everyone who has this symptom.

But before my pe, I remember getting tired really fast, and not wanting to do anything... I kept having visions of me laying my kitchen floor when I would close my eyes to go to sleep, I wasnt sure what the deal was with that but funny enough my pe hit me while i was standing in the kitchen, i didnt collapse or anything just felt funny but thats where the feeling started.
HMMM ... oh yeh and ps beecute, did you know some antidepressants cause clots? and plus you already have a genetic predisposition, maybee this was the cause? My hemo told me not to mess with antidepressants or birth control anymore because they both cause blood clots. I was never on anti depressants but when I first had my clot my therapist recommended it and he said no way, cuz a dr friend of his had a really huge pe from an antidepressant. So im sorry i dont know what brands but something to research maybee??
It is almost like I knew I would not be able to shop for his birthday!!!! It was really like I bought his birthday presents on father's day!!!!
There was once in my life before where I predicted something. I said to my sister when I was growing up that so and so will come to the house at 8pm. It happened and it was a visitor that no one expected!
