I did notice that when my INR gets above therapeutic my hair starts falling out. I noticed this while taking a shower and in the past week I get handfuls of hair when I wash my hair. I never noticed my hair falling out when I am therapeutic. Has anyone else noticed any specific indicators that their INR was ti high? I know others have noticed hair loss after being on the coumadin but is it worse when your INR is to high?

Hey Ferr - I haven't had that problem except when I was on thyroid therapy. My doctor said I had a slightly elevated thyroid so we tried Synthroid last year. What I noticed was my usually very thick and very voluminous hair started to thin and I was developing a bald spot. Once I was off the Synthroid it got better.

Are you on any other drugs beside warfarin? Those might be the culprit.

Oh no I haven't noticed this yet although I am inthe early stages of all of this. My hair is thinning as I get older. Humm can women get hair transplants - lol. Just kidding. I was bald once but prefer not to repeat that.

My hair is thinning too. If this keep up i will try a new look. Shave my head. What do you think.

LMAO, I normally have a very very thick head of hair and even with aging it doesn't hurt to loose some hair so it's not really bothering me except for the handfuls of it. That's a little weird. I am on other medications including thyroid meds but i have been on the Armour thyroid for years with no hair loss. You know maybe we should take all of our weird finding and write a book. You never know it could be a #1 best seller.
"Coumadin-Friend or Foe?" we could all be on Oprah Winfrey show some day.

Ferr, I would say that it is due to warfarin and it does make sense that it would be more noticeable when your INR is higher (meaning more drug in you, right?)
Many folks have talk of that side effect while being ONLY on warfarin .
Thing is that no Dr will say for sure...

But Dero we all know we know more about the side affects of Coumadin, warfarin and lovenox and heparin than the doctors do, same with knowing what to expect from DVT's and PE's. Unfortunately the doctors don't know a whole heck of a lot.

I am sorry my hair is falling out too it was super long So I just cut it short and gave it too locks of Love. It only happens because Warfarin has a half life so itll only happen a couple days a month but it sucks I know.
