By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

New to group PE on 5/9/12

Hi everyone I had a PE on sat evening was just sitting in my chair and left shoulder paint came on with a vengeance. I got to the ER gasping for air and doctors and nurses running everywhere. It was discovered I had multple embolI in both my lungs. To give you some history I am 3 wks post op and went to my doctor with swelling and leg pain a It was dismissed as normal. For someone that is recovering from panic disorder well you might as well just threw me back 10 years. I still have pain when breathing in especially on my side I leave hospital today luckily live 5 min from hospital. I am terrified and scared.

What kind fo surgery did you have? Just curious before I get angry at your doc's dismissal of obvious post op signs of DVT.

Been here going on 3 years, still amazed how little docs know about this :(

You will find some great support here, your story will sound soo familiar to many people. I am 2mths post PE caused by DVT from long haul flight. The anxiety is hard but look for successes in everything you do to become more confident in yourself and your ability to overcome this obstacle.

I had a hysterectomy it wasn't the doc that performed it I told her that it was swelling and having to sleep on a heating pad and she said you look fine no worries see you back in a month My regular physicians furious with her and said it was flat out malpractice which my husband feels I should sue I am the mother of 9 kids this has impacted our lives far more than we should have to endure. I want her to know she can't just dismiss pain like that.
