By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
OK I've just about had enough from people, saying wow you look healthy so why can't you come do this or that? I think its time I start educating the people in our community to exactly what it means to be on coumadin or anti coagulants, (Including the doctors). No I can not take the risks that I used to take because I'm at risk for a serious fall and internal bleeding. Yes i have to wear a helmet even if it does look dorky, or I could get knocked unconscious and bleed internally into my brain. I figured out how I am going to start reaching people.
I often times give talks at such luncheons as Kiwanis, rotary clubs, lions clubs etc about search dogs and the equipment we carry and use. i am now incorporating the helmet and long sleeved shirts I now have to wear and why, Maybe they will start to get the idea that people who are on coumadin are at serious risks. I know a lot of folks who are on anti coagulants in our community and even they don't really understand the seriousness of the situation.

I know exactly what you mean wnen people say to me.....you look well...ha ha just watch me try to climb those steps !!!

I am still learning each day about different aspects of this new reality. when i go out I don't have a leg or arm in a cast, or have crutches, which defines why u can't do something. But just last week when i was out i realized after that even when ordering a pizza or food out that you have to think about the non allowable list.
People really do not understand this. All of us are still learning each and every day
