By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
Hey everybody! I'm just about to go to India (first time long haul flight since my PE a year ago!!) and need anti-malaria medication. I went to the Travel Nurse but she freaked out about the fact that I am on Sinthrome (like Warfarin). She said I had to see the doctor but he is sending me back to the Travel Nurse. I also tried to call the heamatologist but just got an answering machine - no call back. So, has anyone else been in a malaria infected zone on Warfarin/ Sinthrome and what did they take? I have taken Malerone before my I was on Sinthrome and Doxycycline whilst on Sinthrome - Doxycycline did affect my INR and they are worried about the fact that I will be a long way from help (in a rural village and then in a national park). They also don't approve of me riding an elephant but I am not letting this take over my life - I did this for far too long last year!

That site has slightly confusing about quinine and warfarin:
Warfarin
"There is no report of an interaction occurring with coadministration of quinine and warfarin. "
Then this:
However, in healthy subjects, quinine (330 mg) administration prolonged the prothrombin time (form 5 to 11.8 seconds) 41 and reduced the prothrombin content in blood in a patient receiving dicumarol (not available in the US). 42 A similar interaction may be expected to occur with coadministration of quinine and warfarin."
I suspect this is something you'll want to research fully.
