By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

Hi again,
Ok, anyone out there have major weight loss after their pe? In the last six months I have lost 20 pounds, which is major for me....I dropped 3 sizes and although I did want to lose about 5 pounds before, now I am annoyed....I keep shrinking...is this normal?

After being diagnosed as PE I found I lost at least 10 to 15 lbs. I am not sure PE alone can lead to weight loss.

Lost 18 pounds in 6 weeks. Most of it was anxiety related.

I would welcome some weight loss. I had lost 15 pounds during the beginning recovery, but 4 months out I am back to pre PE fat.

I've been working hard to drop some of the weight. I gained 10lbs druning the first 6 weeks. I am on Weight Watchers and have lost that 10 and about another 15 since, but with deligence to the program. Nothing like you. Have you discussed this with your Dr.? I don't think it is directly related to PE. Let us all know your findings. Thanks and take care.

I lost 20lbs in the first month but mine was related to the coumadin not the PE.... I say this because when I switched to lovenox I could keep food down again and quit loosing weight and gained 10 lbs of them back.

I noticed I started to lose wight before my PE. On Nov. 5th I was diagnosed as double PE and pnumonia and they took my phlegm cuture to test if I have TB or other lung disease. Before I was discharged from the hospital they told me test results are negative for TB but I have a enlarged lymphnode in my right lung. On Dec 3rd my dr called me saying my phlegm cuture test shows I have MAC Lung or Mycobactium Avium Intracellulare disease(it needs several weeks to get results for this particular lung disease). Losing wight is one the major symptoms of this illness. So I think my losing wight is not due to PE but due to this illness.

I gained weight with my DVT/PE...npt given cleaarance or had enegryg to excercise till 12 month mark.

yep. I've been diagnosed as severly warfarin intolerant...extreme nausea, vomitting everything I eat or very poor appetitie. I lost 25 lbs in the first two weeks after my PE. I'm up to 35 plus lbs lost now at a bit over a month out. I've stopped weighing myself so it probably is more weight then that. I wasn't obese to being with, so it's starting to get a little scary to lose so much so fast. I've heard lovenox injections can help, but i can't afford them.

in six months i lost about 50 pounds... i think stress and anxiety had a lot to do with this...

I dont know whether it is related to the PE but I have lost some weight dont know how much but clothes that were too tight now can fit. I have found that I do not eat a lot at one stting but tend to eat small amounts throughout the day. Have a good day

I lost weight after both of my PEs.
And I was eating a lot of take-out both times, since I was too tired to cook healthy meals.
My guess is that it had something to do with my resting heart rate being so elevated. Maybe I was burning more calories just sitting there?
