By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
OK and here i thought everything was going along just ducky and wham o my INR jumps to this ridiculous number. I even checked it twice to make sure. So I went out today and had some broccoli for lunch and spinach for dinner. I'm off Coumadin for 2 days then back on the rotating schedule between 10mg and 7.5 mg and test again in 1 week. I also have a stupid sinus infection and my face feels like someone hit me with a brick. I wonder if my high INR is caused from all the Tylenol I have been taking to relieve the pain. I started on antibiotics today and will keep you all posted on what happens next.

Ferr, did you happen to take any echinacea for your cold/ sinus infection? That once made my mom's INR go way up...

It 's when it reaches level like Travelnut's (INR of 12.0) that's when they get worried and give you vitamin K as an antidote, reversing agent.
Ferr, I know it still sucks that it happens and yes I agree, it's enough to send you in a mental loop. Like the others I assume that theTylenols are to blame, I was thinkingmore liquids in your system because of the sinus infection but more liquids = diluting your anticoags so it would have a negative effect , so not the sinus infection theory...
The thing I get worried when I hear of a two day pause is the swing effect on your INR.. Too high, too lo, too hi, too lo...
on and on and...
Keep an eye on that one.

I've been offline for a few days so have only just seen your post. As Dero pointed out I have been having a rollercoaster with my INR levels the last couple of weeks but I'm learning more and more about the way that warfarin works through this experience. When my INR went to 12 as Dero mentioned I had a viral illness and I was taking (with the Drs OK) paracetamol which is like your Tylenol and that is one of the reasons why mine went so high along with the fact that as I was feeling really ill my diet changed from normal which probably didn't help matters.
I learnt that if your INR was over 8 then the procedure is to use vitamin K pills if you aren't bleeding. I too had nose bleeds but they stopped (eventually) so the Dr said they didn't count as heavy bleeding. If there is bleeding it is emergency and into hospital.
After hitting 12 my INR bobbled around below 2 for a week and a half during which time I went back on injections. Yesterday I had a blood test and my INR is now 7.2! As that is not over 8 I'm not having vitamin K but I was told to miss a dose of warfarin last night and then go back on over the weekend and have a repeat test on Monday.
I hope you get your INR back into the zone soon Ferr. Just shows you how any changes and especially illnesses or other medical conditions can affect your INR.
