By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
Well, I'm about 14 weeks out from PE diagnosis at this point. My lungs really haven't been bothering me much, but I've had a bunch of other spin-off issues (hypotension, insomnia) that have caused problems. To make a long story short, I haven't done much in the way of exercise since January.
Yesterday, I was feeling pretty good so my husband and I went to a nearby park for a walk. I was hoping to make it around the entire park (three lakes) but I only made it around one. I started getting winded and having some chest pain and at one point started feeling a little light-headed. We sat on a bench for a while and then finished the walk around the first lake.
Even though I didn't meet my goal, I was happy to finally be getting some exercise. It was surprising how fast the symptoms came on. I feel pretty good if I'm NOT exerting myself, but I guess this goes to show how quickly my body starts to "feel it" even with minor activity. I feel much safer trying to "push it" at this point than I did earlier in recovery, so I'm hoping to get a little more walking in this week and then try for a trip around the three lakes again next weekend.

i think walking around a lake is majorly important!! hats off to you today!

It does get even better. I just accomplished my first trip..plane ride and walking many hours a day at Disneyland for a week and managed to not get too winded. Just pace yourself!
