Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
I have been having increased chest pain the last few days. It was really bad on saturday and then it got better and then it hurt again on sunday and then it was much better on monday and tuesday (not gone but better) then I woke up yesterday hurting bad again. My problem is I dont know who to go see or why this is happening.
I called my primary care doctor (the one whose been taking care of my PE) and he told me to take Ibproven for the pain 3 times a day and if it wasnt better to see him or the cardiologist on Friday. Then, today it was pretty bad so I decided to call back my GP and tell him that I wanted to schedule an appointment because my chest was hurting bad and the person at the front desked asked if I had called my cardiologist and I said no and she said I should because Dr. G. is probably just going to check me out and then refer me to the cardiologist since its chest pain.
The thing is that the cardiologist did a EKG (which was abnormal) and then did a halter for 24 hrs which found an some irregular heart beats but from what the doc say it is the unharmful kind so nothing to worry about. Then they did a stress test and he said the results were normal. This was a month or so ago (cant remember exactly.) SO he said my heart was fine.
I was diagnosed with my PE a long time ago (Aug 27) and I have had some sort of chest pain the whole time off and on but the last almost week my chest pains have been much worse. They come and go.
So my question is who should I see? I mean my cardiologist said my heart was fine so why should I go back to him? Also with this chest pain I also have a cough. Thats why I dont really think it my heart. UGGG Has anyone else had this?

Did your primary care doctor say why the chest pain may be occuring? I am wondering why didn't your primary care doctor advise you to go to emergency if the chest pain persisted or became worse?Maybe a CT scan is in order to assure that everything is fine. If this was happening to me, I would go directly to emergency since my family doctor missed diagnosing my PE in the first place and the emergency is the only place that will give you difinitive answers after running some diagnostics.
