By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

Hematologist appt this week

I finally have my appt this week for blood tests to find out if i have any clotting disorders. I am not sure what questions i should be asking at this appointment or if i should be checking a list of tests that are being done to make sure everything is covered - can anyone point me in the right direction?

I'm sorry, I can't remember if you're already on warfarin. But I DO know that only some genetic tests that can be performed if on warfarin.

There was a list here somewhere in a thread that spoke to those tests.

Some of the articles get a bit technical (which I think is grand) but I couldn't find a 'laundry list' there. But I have seen that somewhere.

I went through all the tests again just a couple of months ago, after being off warfarin for a bit. I can't tell you what all the tests were by name, just that wow they took a lot of blood! LOL I do know there were about a dozen or so tests though. I am sure if the hematologist is ordering them, he will be sure to include it all. So, just ask what exactly he is testing for, beyond the standard answer of "clotting disorders", ask for specifics if you want to know.

thanks guys, i finished warfarin the first week in april so they should be able to test for whatever they need to - its a bit disappointing to hear that some people test negative but still clot again - it would appear that much much more research needs to be done as there is so much that is just not yet known. the answer is i suppose to just have the tests and then try not to think about it anymore if all results come back good. easier said than done though!
