By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

I finally had my hematology appt today (3mths+ post PE) and he says I should stay on warfarin for 12mths rather than the 6mths previously recommended and to take low dose aspirin daily once I go off the warfarin to reduce the chance of clotting by about 50%. It'll make finding a Dr when we move to Denver (in November) a little more urgent, but at least the flying will be safe whilst on warfarin:)

I remember that you said you guys had already worked on figuring out your insurance situation when you come over to the states. If you have a Web site for your new insurance, you can probably at least print out a list of "in-network" providers in the general area where you will be moving and do some preliminary research about them online. That way, you might only have two or three names to on your "possible doctor" list when you get here.

Once you do get here, I'd set up a "meet and greet" appointment ASAP with your first choice. See if you're comfortable with the person and what their plans are for managing an INR patient. If you don't like 'em, maybe move to number 2 on the list.

Totally do-able to get some work done on this now ... before you're in that crazy time in November.

Thanks for the tip Tossnturn, that is a great idea and my Dr here has recommended I buy my own coagucheck monitor before I go, so I can be extra careful and prepared.
