Not sure how that works in the US, but here in the UK, I am looking to buy some travel insurance for my honey moon. My other half was getting quotes for around 35 ($60) for one trip, whereas my quote was double that given the PE. Again, def worth it!
You might make a point to get a med alert bracelet (or similar) for traveling as well. I always have mine on, since it can speak for me if I can't.
