Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
Got there at:
http://www.lysteda.com/
Then this on the first screen:
"Important Safety Information
You should not take LYSTEDA if you currently have or have ever had a blood clot, have been told you are at risk for having a blood clot, or are allergic to LYSTEDA or tranexamic acid."
Also, I didn't read far enough. Weird that it is non-hormonal and STILL should not be used with folks who are likely to have clots. Wonder what the reactive agent is that makes it dangerous and/or likely to cause clots.
Oh well. Strike that one off the list.
Scratch that off. Blonde moment.
It's also used " as firstline nonhormonal treatment of dysfunctional uterine bleeding, and heavy bleeding associated with uterine fibroids."
Here's where I have a problem (and this is my personal opinion)---- when it's being targeted for 'women with heavy menstrual flow'!
Who defines 'heavy'? Many women might choose to use a drug rather than have to change pads etc more often. (And----- yes that's my personal opinion, but I had very heavy flow during my child bearing years and it was a nuisance for sure so I'm no stranger to that.)
As long as an rx is needed perhaps the doctor will inject some reason into its use and only rx it for true medical problems. But according to Wiki:
"The drug, tranexamic acid, has long been sold over the counter in Britain and Japan for heavy menstrual flow."
Sigh. Rant over.
