By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

First PE's ?

OK this morning after I logged into this site I saw 4 different discussion posts titled First PE, or I had my first PE on such and such date which was just last week. or a couple of weeks ago.
I guess I want to let you new comers know that having more than 1 PE event is not the norm. I kind of get the feeling your expecting to get more than I episode of PE's, and that's normally not the case. Please remember those of us who have actually had more than 1 episode are the 2% rule, not the people who are 98% successful of never ever getting another PE. I'm not putting you down in anyway at all so please don't read that into this post, I am just trying to alleviate your fears. Most people do get to come off anti-coagulants and never have another PE, and I am so happy for those people. Those of us that are the 2% who are on anti-coagulants for life, really don't like belonging to this weird club. Remember it does get better, and life can and will get back to normal for most of you. Please take the time to be good to yourselves giving yourself time to heal.
Remember to: Face your deficiencies and acknowledge them; but do not let them master you. Let them teach you patience, sweetness and insight.

I wondered about that too. It seemed like many people in this group have had recurrences. I thought it was probably because the majority of people get well and no longer post but it is nice to see some stats to go along with that.

This is my 1st post and am glad I found yall, I had my 1st DVT and PE in 86 at the age of 22 and just had my 2nd bout with this in may 07 (actually had sever pain and shortness og breath while in Afghanistan and told the medical people what I had in 86 and all they did was a chest xray and said I had an infection) all most killed me because after deployment a local hospital found a massive blood clot in both lungs and a very serious DVT in right leg. They said I should be dead it was so severe.Sorry for talking so much but know body else knows what i'm going through they do care though. I'm on coumadan for life and have a filter. I can't get any answers on if I can work out, cardio and weights. This scares me because I have constant shortness of breath and minor chest pain. Every time I go to the VA hospital they find nothing wrong health wise and they have done all the proper test. Just want to know if anyone else has continuing shortness of breath and if I can work out. I'm 47 years of age.
