By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
Hi all.
I'm a 50 yr old male, decent health, somewhat active.
Last August I got a DVT in my right calf and PEs. When I finally went into the ER, after the Doc saw the CT scan he couldn't believe I was conscious and not in distress... and alive. Had a large saddle embolism. I was in ICU for 4 days and regular room for 2 days. All tests came back negative, no family history, no injuries... the docs said sometimes it just happens.
They put me on Coumadin which I seemed to do well on.
Dec 2014 I had a follow up CT scan, the lungs were clear except for one small spot. Doc was happy and kept me on Coumadin and would scan again in March and if the lungs were clear they would take me off the Coumadin.
Well, last week my calf started to hurt and swell, and I had all the same symptoms. Finally went in and the DVT and PEs were back. Was only in the hospital 24 hours this time. The docs said sometimes Coumadin stops being effective.
They started me on Xeralto.
I'm bummed that the clots came back... I'm a little concerned about using Xeralto. That night in the hospital I couldn't sleep and watched TV. Half the commercials were about Xeralto lawsuits, haha!
I've also talked to friends who use essential oils and got some samples and started using them.
Anyhow, glad I found this.
Any advice?

I'm sorry to hear that you had to go through the repeat of fhe dvt. Was your INR above 2.0 the whole time? I know there are a lot of folks on this forum that are on Xarelto and swear by it, so I would think that you are in pretty good shape. Most of the lawsuits out there are over bleeding, not clotting.
Of course, as you say, you were fine in the ER. It's hard to know if you had been low for a few weeks (and reclotted) and then your INR came back up ... or whether it really just didn't work for you.
Honestly, I'm not very impressed with him overall.
I really never had a regular doc till 2 years ago, before that I would just walk into the Urgent Care place if I was sick, which was once in a blue moon. But when I got on BP meds, the Urgent Care place said I had to get a regular doc. This one was recommended to me by a friend at the cardiology clinic in Cheyenne.
One of the last times I saw him in Dec, I had to refresh his memory about my case, he had my history mixed up with someone else.
He obviously didn't look at my history before he came into the room to see me.
I'm going to find a new doc.
