By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
Does anyone else have a miserably long and heavy period on Coumadin? Just want some commiseration...
I went on the birth control to regulate my periods cuz they were all over the place, tho I couldnt count what day it was coming, at least it was consistent in that it was always 4 days with 1-2 days heavyish bleeding and cramps and the other days it just tapered off with slight cramps and slight bleeding. When i was on b.c. it came every month on the dot and went down to 3 days of light bleeding and light cramping. After a few months of being off b.c. my cycle is haywire again, so i never know when its coming...grrr.... Its been over a month but that is normal for me, my dr said the only thing wrong with an irregular period is that it would be hard to conceive a baby, which i dont care about at all! But on the coumadin my last period was 6 days!!!!!!! almost double my usual... and not only that I bled super heavy for like 4 out of the 6 days... I was like worried lol, I wasnt used to seeing so much blood! I was changing tampons every 1-2 hours!!!! so yeh I guess this is the thing with coumadin.... Im kinda mad that my cycle is haywire again, bc the birth control really did control it well, but i cannot be on bc anymore bc of the hormones and the clotting it causes me so I will live with my month skipping periods grrr, at leat I dont have a boyfriend so I dont worry that im pregnant, 1 great thing about my girlfriend is she cant get my pregnant haha... SOOOOOOOO yes periods suck on coumadin weather u get them every month or every 2 months....
I really commiserate with you. No-one mentions how periods are affected when you take Warfarin. I also noticed I had a lot more clots (in blood - sorry to be graphic), but I found out that this was normal because of the amount of blood loss I had and is nothing to worry about.
Best advice I can give is treat yourself to something nice during that time of the month and if it gets unbearable speak to your Dr - I heard somewhere (but dont quote me) that the dose can be reduced slightly during your time of month if the bleeding is too much to handle - I would get medical opinion on this tho (altho I think it was a Dr who recommended it to someone on here I think).

I have really bad ones whilst on warfarin too. My doctor has recommended Merina coil as it doesnt release hormones into the blood stream.
Also after a couple of months you get no bleeding at all.
Am seriously considering it but am a real chicken when it comes to getting it put in.
