By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

After starting with a sore throat and a tight chest it gradually got worse over a couple of days. About 2am this morning I was feeling like death so phoned the out of hours gp. He asked me lots to make sure it wasn't another clot and asked if I could wait until 10am to get to an out of hours clinic. It was that or take my chances in A&E.

Anyway I trundled off, breathing is dreadful with a disgusting productive cough and he tells me I have wheezy bronchitis. I'm on steroids and antibiotics, watch my wonderfully stable inr go all over the place!

How long does it take before we stop becoming so susceptible to infections?It's 5 months tomorrow that I became ill with the clot, I really thought I'd be well on the mend by now :o(

I honestly have been like this all my life. I get everything that goes around. So I know it gets frustrating. just try to hang in there. If your immune system is normally wonderful, then i would think with time it would go back to normal. As far as healing everyone varies. I still get chest pain and its will be 2 years in August. If you ever need some one to talk to message me any time.

Just curious since you had the PE how many times have you been sick or had an infection? Everyone's perspective is different so I was just wandering what you considered susceptible to infections. For instance if I can get through a month or two without an infection I feel like im doing really good where as my friend has went over a year w/o going to the doctor.

Hi Msm,I came home the middle of december, boxing day I was on antibiotics for a chest infection. Less than a month later I was on them and steroids for another infection. About 5 weeks after I spent a night in hospital thinking I had another clot but it was pneumonia. I've had almost 2 months grace and now here again :o(

I would say I had about 2 episodes a year before the clot and none as severe as what I've had since.
I feel for you getting everything going, it can be pretty miserable eh. The steroids are kicking in though so at least I can breathe a bit easier. Hope you're well at the moment?
