Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
It is possible, although unlikely, to have another one while you are on Coumadin. The pains don't necessarily mean that there is another clot. The pain comes back every now and then, unfortunately.
However, if you feel that this pain you are having is something that needs to be checked out, call your doctor or go to the ER as soon as you can. I've gone to the ER a couple of times myself in the past few months just to make sure that the pain is nothing to worry about.
If there is one thing I've learned through this whole blood clot experience, it's not to ignore my symptoms.
So, check out anything that doesn't feel right, and hopefully it will turn out to be nothing.
Good luck!
I went to visit a haematologist who specialises in blood clots on Monday, and it was the best session I ever had. I asked him why I felt pain still and he explained it pretty well to me. He said that part of the lung became damaged as it was starved of oxygen so part of the tissue in the lungs died. Over time this repairs its self and regenerates, and when it does it hurts a bit. It's all part of the healing process. Think of it this way... when i stopped smoking I had a really horrid saw throat for about three weeks, this was because the cilia cells in my throat that were dead from the smoking were starting to repair them selves and when the do it hurts. Kind of like a growing pain. And the same mechanism is happening in the lungs.
You know your own body better than anyone, so if you are concerned don't think twice about seeking medical help. I would strongly recommend seeing the sort of specialist I went to see. He was great.
hope this is helpfull take care

I am also one who throws clots while on the coumadin. It really has disrupted my life again. I am working to get it under control again without letting it control my life.
Hugs
Ferr
I had no known reason for my initial clots and there is no known reason for my 2nd clots.
I must just be a special person....lol.
Like Ferr I am 1 in a million.
And yes I just a Ct scan to rule out cancer. Haven't had any surgeries or long flights.
