By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
I was on it for 10 months, and was given the go ahead to come off of it about four weeks ago. It's so surprising to me how far I've come in those 10 months. When this first happened and I was put on blood thinners I thought for sure I'd want to be on it for life because I was so terrified of this happening again. But the constant INR checks (which were a pain because I'd have to bring my kids to the lab once a week...yes that many checks), not being able to take certain meds like ibuprofen or having to watch others, just the daily reminder of what happened to me. I've been very okay these last four weeks anxiety wise while not on the meds.
I have ONE question that I was hoping someone might have some insight or anecdotal experience with. I came off my meds in what would have been about mid cycle for me. My cycles can run long, but usually the longest is 35 days. I've gone beyond that now. I'm wondering - can coming off coumadin cause a cycle delay or disturbance? I'm not pregnant, but I am starting to feel like I'm watching a pot of water to see if it'll boil.

I'm not sure about coming off of the blood thinners, but Warfarin sure as heck messed with my cycle ever since I've been on them. I used to have a 25-day cycle, and would start every day on the dot (usually with excrutiating cramps that would cause me to miss school and work). My usual period would be moderate bleeding for two days and then tapering off for three days - it was extremely reliable, but very painful when it started. My first period on Warfarin was relatively dry and uncrampy due to the birth control hormones still in my system (they caused my PE). My second period came two days early with a moderate flow for 6 days. I'm now on my third period on Warfarin and have been bleeding profusely for 4 days now. It's definitely been a roller coaster ride, so I'm interested to see how the next three months are going to pan out for my cycles. So like I said, I'm not sure if coming off of blood thinners will mess with your cycle, and I know that every person is different, but it sure as heck messed with mine once I came on them, so I wouldn't doubt it if it somehow messed with you after you came off of them.

I definitely think I'm going to chalk this up to warfarin messing with my cycles. I actually did finally get it today on what would have been cycle day 37. I'm curious to see how it plays out for me as well. Prior to going on warfarin I hadn't had my cycle since April 2012, due to pregnancy and breastfeeding. So I didn't get my cycle back until Jan of this year, already on warfarin.

my cycle was very long when i came off also. like thehormone is not ciculating as well. but they leveled out to what id call irregualrly normal for me.

Interesting that you posted this. I came off Xarelto mid cycle has well four months ago. I had a three week period. Then nothing for two months. Last month 1 day of bleeding. Waiting to see what happens this month. I was starting to think the drug put me into early menopause.
