By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

I am 50 years old and got my first bi-lateral sub-massive PE on June30. They seem to think it came from my right leg. I am/was very active. rode mountain bikes in CO for ten years. I rode 15 miles on June 29th, then could not finish walking my dogs the next morning with all of the usual symtptoms. I had to be taken to the hospital by ambualnce. I am on Lovenox and Coumadin right now and trying to het my levels up to 2.0

I go in for ultra sound next week and see a hemotologist this week. HCT tests results not in yet.

I have been reading all of your comments. I keep being told I am lucky to be alive. I have no intention of leaving this life anytime soon.

Glad your doing fine! I was told 'Your Lucky to be Alive' by so many people. PE was unknown to me until I started reading more about it, finding about all the people who have did from it, people who have survived it and are still doing almost everything they were doing before the PE struck. Why Lovenox & Coumadin? Not to many restrictions with Xarelto, other than I cant take 'Naproxen'! Oh how I miss my naproxen for those days my knees throb like HELL!!
All my blood test came back negative, so the dr's cant figure out how & why I got the clots....I just hope Im done with it though....
