By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

Amusement Parks after PE

My husband has free tickets to a local amusement park tomorrow through his employer. I didn't give it much thought until right now...but this could be painful.

Has anyone gone on roller coasters or other rides post PE, and what were your experiences, reactions, pain levels, etc.?

I'm so glad you posted this at just the right time!

My dad is taking my two younger sisters (7 and 15) to Kings Island Amusement park tomorrow after he takes me to the Kentucky Derby Museum and Churchill downs. I chose not to go to Kings Island due to what you said...worrying about the heat and the pain and the long 4 hour drive. My dad is also taking my sisters to Holiday World which is another theme park and I was thinking about going with them to that park since it's closer to home (only 2 hours away).

So I'm interested in what others will say about this!

There is an increased risk of bleeding to the brain riding a roller coaster even without Warfarin. Taking blood thinners increases the risk. I guess you just have to be comfortable with your choices. Personally I won't ride one until I am off blood thinners. (Sad for me, because I LOVE roller coasters) but I feel like I was lucky enough to survive my bout of PE and I am just not willing to take a known risk.

Oh well, there goes my free entrance to Six Flags next month. I just can't go to the park without riding every roller coaster at least twice.

Fascinating! This had never occurred to me! I'm thinking Space Mountain is out the next time I hit Disney ... but I'm gonna ride everything else!

I'll have to admit...I went & rode roller coasters. I was scared at first, but didn't ride anything too jerky. Although I was a little dizzy, which I think had a lot to do with the sun, I feeling fine now (although tired). We inly rode 5 rides total. Thanks for the advice. I will hopefully be off blood thinners the next time I go, so won't have to worry.
