Well I guess you are special - but not for the fact that heparin jabs cause you bruises!
The last time I had to have them was for some hospital tests last november. By the end of a week it was hard to find a bruise-free patch to stick the needle in! My darling husband offered to do them for me when I got home and one time the puncture site started to bleed for some reason. It didn't bother me too much but he almost passed out on me !!! I don't like to be a warfarin lifer but I would hate to think I had to have the jabs for life instead - take care - love S xx

I think we are all special anyway!

However I did bruise like mad when I had the injections. The important thing is not to rub the site afterward. I forgot and did that without thinking one time and had such a huge raised bruised area. Worried me for ages cos it wouldnt stop spreading. Lucky for me I had a big tummy!!!

I've never actually had to have any shots yet, so I don't know. But thanks for giving me a heads up on what I have to look forward too.

I've only had 1 heparin injection which they gave me before deciding to thrombolyse me. That was almost 2 months ago and I still have a lump in my tummy from it!

The worst for me was when I had just given myself an injection and my dog walked across my belly, stepping right on the injection site.
I still have remains of that bruise more than 6 weeks later! I love my little pup (who is about 17 lbs and quite a lap dog) but OUCH!

Ahh the good ol injections. I bruised like it was unreal. While i was in thehospital i was getting 1 a day....when i was discharged I had to have 2 injections every morning, for 5 days!

Then after xmas when i was shipped back down to the hosp again i had to endure them for a couple of days.

And yes I was a wuss and not able to give them to myself. My dr's agreed to do them for me.

I had to have the shots two different times. I only bruised one time and I think that was because the nurse pinched me so hard when she injected me. She said when you squeeze it, it doesn't hurt as much. That one hurt the worse and was the only one to leave a bruise.
I found the angle and going slow made a difference as far as pain, maybe it helped with the bruising too. That bruise took forever to heal as well.

Ferr, You are only special if you DO bruise -I am on them now -man do they sting like H E double toothpicks. My INR was only up to 1.8 tonight so at least 2 more -AHHHH. I hate those stinking things. I guess this too shall pass. Blessings, Teri

GADS I had to have another 120 mg lovenox shot again today. My INR hasn't come up since yesterdays 2.5 and the doc wants me closer to 3 or above. I swear them nurses are SADISTS, I could almost detect the evil gleam in her eye when she jabbed me. And then that smirky smile when she says "Oop's I'm so sorry" yea right lady I just bet you are, Let me stick you with that needle. I told her if she ever got lost in the woods I was gonna leave her Butt out there, see if I come rescue her.

The trick is to NOT rub them at all or put any pressure on the injection site even the waist band from your pants ,panties or shorts for the dudes .The lightest touch from anything can really increase the bruise and the stinging .
It seems to me that the longer I am on the coumadin the more I am feeling the sting and also the sting of the blood draws which never bothered me before at all .

I'm on the lovenox too, but I don't really bruise at all -- which makes me sick with worry that it's not actually working!! At most, I get the tiniest little red mark (smaller than a pencil eraser), and most of the time I don't even get that.

I know bruising is a bad thing when on blood thinners, and I know I should be grateful to not have to endure it.....but I have to say that it really stresses me out because, at the very least, the bruises are an outward sign that your blood is being thinned out and you are not clotting.

I think the psychological effects of a coagulation disorder are really awful...every twinge in my leg has me on red alert.

Hi Ferr, Well I just did 14 days bridging back and forth on warfin to lovenox. No fun at all just did not say any thing to my hudband the shot giver. Trick 1st ice the area first, 2nd hold presser on for a few minutes, 3rd don't forget the bandaid. I did i was at work and looked down I had a 4 inch circle of blood that had gone through 2 shirts, The only thing I thought was holy cow whats wrong now? called my DRS asap, they are the best for helping us get through theses things. As for the bruising it comes with the shots sorry? Mine are three weeks old and almost gone. Stay stong you can get through this. It does get better. C

We are all special, aren't we? I have been on fragmin shots since I had my DVT on November 10th and by the sounds of it, will be on it for life. I have bruises all over my stomach from it constantly being pricked, but my bruises are all light(yellowish) but fairly large(inch by inch) or if I don't get a bruise like that I get a small dark red dot. What fun! Take care and don't worry about it. When I put it in my leg or arm to give my stomach a break the bruises are much nastier.

I am at 2.3 -so for me-NO LOVENOX tonight -Yeah. Now I have to watch it doesn't go UP too high -on antibiotics for strep throat- if it isn't one thing, it's another! I would much rather "feel the burn" from exercise!v Blessings, Teri
