By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

I was on warfarin for 6 months after bilateral PE. Follow up CT showed clots were gone. I had been feeling back to normal.

I am now 2 weeks off of warfarin and I am starting to feel short of breath, coughing, and that menthol, chilled air feeling again.am I just being paranoid. I am running 5 miler tomorrow and don't want to pass out in the middle.

I had all kinds of shortness of breath episodes after coming off warfarin. Many more than when I was ON. I really think I was just completely paranoid for the first few months. Every cough, pain, itch, ANYTHING made me think I was clotting again. It's more than likely you just have a bit of a chest cold or allergies. I STILL get that menthol feeling when I have a coughing fit, go out in the really cold air, or when I'm in the lab working with certain chemicals. I also still get short of breath easier than before. I've been off warfarin for 18 months now, so I've finally adjusted to the feelings and get a little annoyed that I have to use an inhaler, but I don't so much worry about that feeling being clots anymore.

Gotta agree with JennerM on this one. Sounds like you might just be hyper-alert about things right now since you *just* came off warfarin. Combine that with a little anxiety and the pressure of doing a 5-mile and I'm not surprised you're feeling "symptoms."

If you're going to be thinking of nothing else for the next few days, it might be worth getting checked out, just for your own peace of mind. Or, maybe, put off that 5-miler for another yet. Although, if you do decide to run, I'll be cheering you from CO!

Congrads on the run! :-) ya..I too am super paronoid after my dvt in my leg..so I undetstand. Everytime something hurts..I think oh boy..here wr go again..that's why it's sp dood to be on this forum. People care a lot & have plentu of exp,s to relate to!
