terrible itching on toes and fingers.

New to this group. My problem started about 15 months ago. One night, I woke up itching the back of my thighs and there were welts all over my legs. This started my journey of horrible, non-relenting itching. The first dermatologist thought it was scabies (wrong), the second dermatologist said that it was probably eczema (wrong), then skin biopsies were inconclusive (lichen simplex: unknown). So, the third dermatologist basically said, "we'll give you steroid injections." That was fine, but I wanted to know what was causing this endless itching. Well, no answers. Finally, I visited my fourth dermatologist and she finally narrowed the problem down to some sort of an allergic reaction. Now here's the weird thing about my condition, it is now effecting the nail beds of my fingers and toes. This is so bizarre I can't even explain it except that the itching is like torture and the more I scratch, the more it itches. Has anyone ever had or heard of such a condition?

if it is affecting your nail beds, it may be psoriasis. my boyfriend has psoriasis and exczema and his hands and feet itch him like crazy. when we went to the dermatologist she diagnosed the psoriasis based on the abnormalities of his nail beds. lichen simplex chronicus can cause itching, but i don't know if it can affect the nail beds. they don't think it's psoriasis? it's not bizarre, it sounds just like my boyfriend's psoriasis with the itching and the nail bed deformity.

I had a similar condition 3 years ago. Intense itching through out my body. First started with the torso area, limbs and soon spread to the rest of the body, including the scalp. Blistered throughout the body with very intense itching esp during the nights. I wanted to tear out my skin. Could not sleep for 2 months. Took heavy doses if antihistamine 24/7 round the clock. My doctor also thought that it was scabies from dust mites.
Cut the story short, send bloodwork for food allergy test. It turn out that the damn eggs are causing the problems. Stop eating eggs and the itch took 3 weeks to subside and skin starts healing.... thank God no scaring . Now smooth as a babies bottom. Those damn eggs!!! I love eggs but no more eggs for me.... not even mayo or contaminated oil that had egg batter cooked in it. No medication required, just abstain from eggs. Maxi
