Does anyone have this problem? I would say it's psoriasis but my husband gets it also when the weather is bitter. Right now I have my thumbs wrapped up in gauze with vaseline on them. My hubby used to get it from dealing with all the boxes when he worked for UPS but he is still experiencing it and we just don't understand.Would love to know if anyone has a story.

I don't know if psoriasis is linked with dry skin or not but I have both. I have to keep gloves on in the cold or my fingers split. Also drink lots of water. If you get dehydrated your skin will suffer. I experience the same thing as your husband if I handle paper products to long . Try wearing latex gloves once in a while, it can help as long as you take breaks from wearing them.(the powder in the gloves can also dry out your skin.)I also watch what products I buy. I stay away from any kind of dish soaps with lemon. Stick to sensitive skin products , it really helps.

i agree with stubs, drinking LOTS of water daily will help. you need to keep your skin moisturized from the inside out. to help, use a thick lotion, vaseline, or something like baby oil gel at night and sleep with socks over your hands. this keeps them super moisturized and will help heal what damage has already been done. along with the products you use, antibacterial soaps will dry out your hands more than regular soaps. dove products seem to be the best for me! if psoriasis is also linked with your hands now, make sure to keep using any topical creams you may have to heal that as well.

when I was freight manager for Ben Franklin and unloading boxes, etc...my fingers would split open at the corners. Now in nursing they do because I wash my hands so much. They really smart when they do that. One trick I have found is to use clear nail polish over the splits. It allows them to heal up and they dont hurt so much. Its almost the same as the liquid bandage and costs a whole lot less. I have done this for many years. Some of us are just more prone to it than others and using the preventive measures others have given and the little help trick, he might be more comfy! Hope that helps some.

For my hands, which don't yet have p on them, I swear by Aquaphor. It's greasy but I put it on before I'm ready to go to bed and then just sit in bed rubbing it in constantly for about 5 minutes and my hands are so smooth. During the day I use the Eucerin which doesn't affect anything i'm doing but works great too!

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
