Psoriasis Support Group
Psoriasis is an immune-mediated disease which affects the skin and joints. When it affects the skin it commonly appears as red scaly elevated patches called plaques. Psoriasis plaques frequently occur on the elbows and knees, but can affect any area of skin including the scalp and genital area. Psoriasis can also cause inflammation of the joints. This is known as...
I'm pretty unlucky with the location of my P, as I get the worst plaques on my knuckles, spreading all over the tops of my hands at worst times. Try to hide that...Shame one can't wear gloves all year round! Last summer I came up with this "brilliant" idea of wearing lots of very thin cover ups with too long sleeves. I used to pull them over my palms, which gave me a look of a neurotic teenager...Not a good one, when one is 34;).
I was so sick and tired of this "hiding", that as much as I dread the summer, I decided that's enough, sod it. Last week was extremely warm and I wore whatever I fancied. Hmmm, that felt pretty liberating. Had to have dark sun glasses on all the time, so as not to look at myself too much, but hey, nobody said it would be easy!
Let's see how that goes, but I'm optimistic so far.
Your friends are right- there's sooo many people with deformities and horrible injuries that makes you think we got off pretty easily (although it doesn't seem like this most of the time...).
Enjoy warm weather, get as much air and sun on your skin as you can. If somebody gives you a hard time, remember that it's their problem- not yours. And believe in karma...always works for me.
All the best.
My sunglasses are my best friends these days. That doesn't stop the odd looks and staring from children but it helps me.
