Just wanted to compare notes with other fellow VP shunters on how long it took to actually feel back to "yourself" after having surgery? How much laying around did you do before feeling better, etc? Thanks!
I think we have all learned (the hard way) that everyone has a different experience with the assorted surgeries and treatments we have to go though. One of the zillion lousy aspects of PTC. (Sorry, I'm feeling very fussy these days - sick of the unpredictability of it all.)
My VP shunt recovery was fine for about the first week. I was laying around for about the first 4-5 days like a meatloaf, but no horrible pain or problems. After about day 5 I did start to feel more like myself. But the whole anesthesia thing can really kick your ass. I have found from surgery to surgery it is always different. My tubing starting wandering into uncomfortable place by the end of the first week so at that point I started feeling lousy again. But that was just my wacko experience. Three plus months later I still am having what my NS calls typical after effects of any kind of brain surgery. Some days I have terrible word salad, drop things, have trouble typing, etc. and other days I am back to my old self. It messes with my head on the bad days but the NS assures me it will level out.
I hope this helps. I am feeling very angry and cranky these days so I have been keeping my thoughts to myself. I hope you start feeling more like yourself very soon and the VP shunt does the trick for you!
