What do you take for migraines?

Hi Everyone,
I've been diagnosed with IH for about 2 years. I have a vp shunt, and I've had 2 revisions. I started having headaches after my 2nd revision that I haven't been able to get rid of. I've had drs tell me it could be nerve pain from the surgeries, or migraine. The headache is always behind my right eye. It's like a stabbing pain, and my pupil usually dilates in my right eye when I have the pain. My neuro has had me taking amitriptyline for it. I've gone from 25mg, to 150 mg. the increase helps with the headache for about a week before the pain comes back in full force. Does anyone take a preventative migraine med? My neuro mentioned that our next step may be Topomax. Any info you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

My headache specialist is going to try botox injections and if my pressure is low enough (below 15), he wants to try to move me from diamox 1000mg to topamax. I tried amatriptaline but it made me sleep for over 24 hrs so I stopped. They think its because I also take zoloft. I have just been really left with hydrocodone and diazepam. They gave me migraine injections at the Dr office but that led to an ER trip...:(

Yikes. I don't think my migraines are nearly as bad, but when I feel one coming on (usually about once or twice a week), I take two Fioricet and that usually gets rid of it. If it doesn't work, then I hit the Maxalt. I've tried others, but these are the two that work for me. Oh, and my lovely insurance won't cover botox injections, which was something my neurologist wanted to try.

I do want to pass along that I've found that eliminating foods with msg seem to help me. It's hard to do since it's in like everything (anytime you see "natural flavors" for example, yep, that's msg). Vitamin B6 counteracts the msg, so taking a B-complex vitamin might help. This is just what seems to work for me. Experiment if you'd like. :)
