Not sure what they have tried on you so far? They usually try to control the pressure with a med called diamox. Sometimes workss but usually does not and the side effects are terrible, takes away your taste almost completely. Nothing taste the same especially soda or anything with carbination. You taste no bubbles as I used to say. Flat pepsi, but worse flat beer. I stopped drinking all together. If that doesnt work then they refer you to a NS nuero surgeon and place a VP shunt on one side of your head. Let me know more about what they have already tried for you and then can better answer the question.

I have gone thru 6 shunts in the last year. Gone thru= they failed everytime, just about the time I was getting the staples out the pressure was back, was very frustrating to go thru all that pain for just 10 day of relief. Let me know more please

i am already on diamox, and yes it sucks i hate diamox with a passion. i feel like it is doing nothing for me. i had my first lp on 10/27/10 and just recently feel like my fluids are built back up. i am really scared about his shunt thing but i guess if i have to get it then i gotta do it, just cant stand the eye pain, the wooshing, and the headaches. and i am also pritty sure i have low blood pressure. i cant do anything without getting lightheaded these days.

April. not sure if I said this already but, have you had your blood checked recently?
I ask becaue after all my life having low pressure, I now have sky high and its related to the IIH.

I only found out because I went to the drs with the eye pain. No harm to get it checked, just i case.
Other wise, I agree with Amiee. If the drugs are not working, and you have paps, the next step is usually , shunts.
But please dont fret! when they work, they are just brilliant ! Cath.

I just got my shunt in October and it's great. The headaches, the whooshing, and the pressure behind my eye are all totally gone. I am slowly getting my sight back (no peripheral vision yet but at least I can see what's right in front of me). I do have some pain where the fluid drains into my abdomen, but it is sooo worth it. I hope everything works out for you, please keep us informed.

I wish I had gotten my shunts as soon as I was diagnosed. After being on diamox for a year and it did nothing for me. Shunts are not scary at all. I have had7 surgeries in the last year. We tried everything.

The low blood pressure does not seem to fit. I also have high blood presssure because of the PTC. Have never heard of anyone having low BP. You should get that checked out. Might be something else going on there.
