What can I do instead of neurosurgery (shunt)?

Are there any activities that I should not do? Should I get vaccinated with the flu shot, meningitis shot to prevent infecting the shunt? What should I expect after surgery? How long will it take for the headaches to go away? How much pain should I expect to be in post surgery? How long will the hospital stay be? How long will it take to recover from the surgery? Do you recommend a vp shunt or LP shunt and why? Will the shunt be adjustable? What are the signs of shunt failure? These are just some of the questions I asked my NS. I hope these help and might inspire you to think of other questions. I know all of the answers to these questions but it can depend on each NS so he may give you a different answer than what I have been given. Oh, you could also ask how much hair will be removed and where he is going to place the shunt, right front or back right?
