So I'm a little freaked out. Lately I have been having tinnitus (ringing, not whooshing) in both ears. I used to have pulsatile tinnitus pretty bad, but it's calmed down since I started Diamox about two years ago. Now my ears are both ringing off and on, especially if I lie down or change positions. It comes and goes, it's definitely not constant. Sometimes my ears feel a little muffled, too. I have had tinnitus in the past, but it didn't happen this often. I read somewhere that Diamox can cause it and now I'm worried. Would a side effect like this show up after two years? I'm only on 250 mg a day now. Could it be my IIH? It seems like my IIH is under control, my visual fields are almost completely normal, but I don't know. I'm also concerned because last November I had perforated eardrums due to an infection. They seemed to heal normally and I felt fine, but then all of a sudden I start having this tinnitus, and I don't know what's going on. I'm really scared. I'm a musician and I need my ears. I don't know what I would do without my hearing. Does anyone have any experience with this? Please help, I don't want to go deaf. :'(
I have experienced tinnitus as a side effect of Diamox, however it occurred due to a heightened dosage in the beginning of my treatment. I have not since experienced any problems.
If the tinnitus is bothersome, I think you should consider seeing a doctor. Although, this does not sound like a medical emergency, it's probably best to get things checked out just to be safe.
