I've never heard of getting sinus pain in your neck, but I hear a lot about neck pain in IIH.

I've never heard of sinus pain in the neck, either.

It's hard to tell sometimes if facial and eye pain is IH or a sinus problem. There are a few things I look out for with a sinus problem:

1. Is green junk coming out of my nose?
2. Can I breathe through my nose?
3. Does it hurt to press on my sinuses?
4, Am I sneezing or coughing a lot?

Those point towards sinus problems, for me, anyway.

My IH headaches can also include severe ear pain, jaw pain, pain in what feels like my lymph nodes. I've bothered my doctor so many times with what I thought was an ear infection. No infection, but there was water behind my ear drum. IH stinks!

I've had ear pain many times going back years and had docs tell me there was fluid. however, I suspect they just don't know what they are looking at; that's been my experience from examining ears and comparing to what other docs say they see. it's been frustrating to not be able to look at my own eardrums! I think our ear pain is from something intracranial, maybe in my case from my TMJs. it can also be a symptom of Eagle's syndrome which is associated with styloidogenic jugular venous compression syndrome, a curable cause of IIH.

How would a dr. diagnose eagle's syndrome?

When the dr. saw water behind the eardrum, what do you think he was really seeing?

I honestly do not know what other docs see when they look in ears. once I had my boss (years ago) ask me to look over a kid whose parents were really worried about him. my boss wanted to send the kid home. I looked him over and concluded he needed more aggressive respiratory management, assessment in ER. aside from that, the baby had bright red eardrums, swollen and bulging and easy to see (many exams are very difficult but a med student shouldn't have missed this). my boss hadn't mentioned it so I said "so, you hadn't looked in his ears yet?" and he said, oh, no they were fine. I'm surprised I didn't stroke out right there. I concluded he must be color blind. but really, it took me 2 years of examining babies on a daily basis to really "get" the ear exam. so, no, I don't think most docs really know what they are looking at or know how to examine ears. I don't know what to tell you about this.

for Eagle's syndrome there has to be a clinical syndrome plus the characteristic appearance of the styloid process on CT, as far as I am aware. to prove it is contributing to IIH would require a neck MRV.

I think it's both sinuses and iih!!! Yay! I get sinus pressure sometimes in the back of my head. I guess that's what I'm talking about. But my ears and neck I'm fairly sure is iih. Who knows.

Hell if you ask me I dont think our Ih is idioproofic as they like to say. I've been twisted, turned, and dumped around by all these dam DXs I've gotten. Not one of em right, I had paps, not increased pressures on any lps, massive occipital ha, told it was chiari, its not, neck, scapular pain, back and arm, collar bone, and peck pain so bad I often wish for a whole new right sided body transplant. I think its vascular and nerve issues, bone movement in which I know I have! In the last 11 to 12 years i have developed kyphosis, what appears to be large thoracic scoliosis, my collar bone has shifted backwards, and my arm doesnt work right. The one DX that still kills me is the POTS, I have really low bp, not so much tachycardia. I feel like channel zero it coming with positional changes, but the more im learning about the vertebral arteries, and all my bones moving the more I pfft at IIH! Sophiasmom pointed this out to me today, it confirmed exactly what I thought all along. When I found out about all of this shit in 2009 I went to see ortho surgeon that I now know was totally clueless, he told me my shifting bones had nothing to do with how I feel. DUMbASS
Every other site I've visited with IH peeps, they didnt have the symptoms we do! They suffered visually, ha, nausea and vomiting only.

Crud, im saying make them test you for every dam thing that causes IH, for 20 yrs I've been told im pre-diabetic. Went to endio Thursday, she said if that we're true I would already be insulin dependant by now,she was concerned because proper tests were never done, she believes I have an issue with pancreas, a part of the pancreas may need to be removed. See my point, your told something by a dr. cause they used a half assed approach and wasn't thorough with testing for what could be causing any issue.

I wanna watch that documentary escaping fire I think it's called. The preview talks about how if a doctor does a procedure he gets paid a bunch more money but spends 45 minutes to figure out what's wrong only gets 15$. Makes me wonder how true that is.

How doctors are compensated is a whole 'nother topic. In some doctors it encourages the wrong behavior. It burns my behind, too. My least favorite? Some clinics give bonuses based on patient load and patients seen per day. It encourages that "come back and see me in 30 years," and those famous 10-minute appointments. It can help a doctor get that panel size up to 3000 patients or more. Crazy. I think for most doctors under 1000 is much more reasonable and they can provide much better care. But - most of them get that juicy bonus if they keep that patient load high. Too bad for the patients!
