I received my SSDI on appeal, and I will tell you that it probably doesn't really matter what is causing the problem, the thing they look at is HOW ARE YOU FUNCTIONING. be very graphic in describing in detail how this illness AND the treatment that is not optional affects your ability to FUNCTION. how can they expect you to work if you can't walk around without feeling dizzy, if your required medication makes you too sedated to concentrate on your work? tell them every single symptom and how it limits what you are able to do. I don't know if you are sensitive to scents like I am but that is the biggest problem for me as I have to be able to get away from chemical scents when I get exposed or I get sick, and they are everywhere. so there is no work environment that is safe for me. if that is the case for you don't leave that out; tell them everything. good luck!
-Tingling in your hands, feet, face (I used to drop things all the time due to lack of sensation in my hands)
-Difficulty in managing Electrolytes-getting the right balance of fluids and potassium
-Staying out of Direct Sunlight-risk of sunstroke, sunburn, and your body does not produce enough sweat to cool itself
-Fainting/Syncopy
-Fatigue
-Dizziness (are you OK to drive?)
-Strange taste in mouth (mine tasted like pennies)
-Stomach upset (pain and/or diarrhea)
Sophia is right on in focusing on how you are functioning on a day to day basis. Very important.
All of that said, here are some hints about filing for Social Security Disability.
SS has a list of qualified DX's that almost always get approved as long as your physician does a good job filling out the necessary paper work an you legitimately fit the criteria.
Some of these DX's include
Schizophrenia
PTSD
Clinical Depression
Immune Disorders
Cancer
Unfortunately PTC is not on the list of Pre- Approved SS Dx's, so you will have to work really hard, b/c whoever gets your case probably does not know what PTC is, and since it is not on the Qualifying List, there is a good chance you will not get approved on the first try...you may have to re-apply or have a hearing where a judge can really listen to and understand the dynamics of PTC.
IF you happen to be seeing a therapist or psych doc for depression, anxiety, psych meds, etc...and can add one such DX to your application, you may find it gets approved more quickly.
Unfair, but true. Best wishes, LuLu
